THREE LEGACY PERFORMING ARTS ORGANIZATIONS PRESENT “THE NUTCRACKER” TELEVISION SPECIAL AS TRIBUTE TO WELCOME KAMAʻĀINA BACK TO THE THEATRE
This made-for-TV production of The Nutcracker presents Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet through a unique lens. The telecast program will feature an impressive cast of more than 175 performers from archival footage of Ballet Hawaii’s previous productions of The Nutcracker at Neal Blaisdell Center that includes New York City Ballet’s prima ballerina Megan Fairchild. The broadcast incorporates a performance by the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra conducted by Stuart Chafetz at the Hawaii Theatre Center. Local girl, professional ballet dancer, and international actor Amanda Schull narrates. The vision of the Hawai’i Nutcracker is by internationally renowned choreographer Septime Webre, artistic director of the Hong Kong Ballet, and Ballet Hawaii’s own artistic director Pamela Taylor-Tongg. The broadcast was produced by Deborah Glazier and Stasia Droze Jost.
Ballet Hawaii, Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra and Hawaii Theatre Center proudly present three nights of the 2020-21 regional Emmy® award nominated broadcast of The Nutcracker: A Gift to the Community to herald back the return of performing arts in Honolulu for the holidays. Tune in December 11th, 18th, and 25th at 7:00pm on ABC/KITV.
